BAND LEADERS:
O U R S T O R Y
When the time comes to plan a big event, whether it is a company party, a wedding, a bar mitzvah, or any other number of gatherings, there is a certain number of things you want to get from the crews you hire. Sure, experience and talent is one thing, but what about professionalism, candor, and a top-notch work ethic? Wouldn’t it also sound nice to have a company work for you that has a firm footing in old-fashioned morals while keeping a firm grasp on what’s big on the scene today? Don’t you want the people working for you to give 110 percent towards making your event one that nobody will forget?
If you answered yes to any or all of those questions, then Creations Music is the company for your next affair. Founded by Rick Anthony in 1965, Creations Music has been at the forefront of virtually every single trend and style that has come about since then. More than just background music, Creations covers as little or as much of your occasion’s entertainment. From lighting and staging, to sound production and unique arrangements, Creations does it all.
Creations started when Rick began working at the Copacabana in New York City during he mid 60s. While performing seven nights a week, he and his band shared the stage and sang with world-renowned acts and soloist such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and many more. "I was the longest running band to ever be featured in the Copa’s lounge," Rick said. "It was such a success that we expanded the band from a trio into a five-piece and wanted to move on to the burgeoning night club scene." It was then, in the late 60s that Creations signed with the illustrious Norby Walters Agency, traveling and performing seven nights a week all across the county.
But before long, Rick had to foresight to step down from the microphone. He realized the tremendous amount of raw talent in the country and how they could be used to usher in and transform all the new styles as they came to be. It is that reason why Rick has remained, to this day, the backbone of Creations – calling all the shots and producing the entire program. The reason why Creations Music is redefining the event entertainment business is because there are no other companies offering this type of diverse history.
In a time such as planning a wedding, where everything is stressful and the family is dealing with scores of other faces and phone numbers, Rick is the only name that you need to know for entertainment. If you have any suggestions or concerns, he will take care of it all and none of the responsibility will fall on your shoulders.
"We’ve been there and done so many things over the years, facing so many different situations, that there is almost nothing that I can’t handle. It’s automatic. Some of the concerns that a couple may have, such as the seating arrangements, level of volume, a change in staging or lighting, inclement weather – none of it is too big or too small for us."
"Growing up, my father’s band was rehearsing every day and they were playing all the music that was current," Kim said. "….having watched Rick practice every day and perform every weekend, I always saw myself on a stage with a Microphone entertaining audiences. It became a passionate life goal for me to pursue."
After attending college, Kim majored in business while minoring in vocal performance, Kim mastered the technical and creative side of producing, recording, and editing her own material, then she set out on her own career. Her first big break was being discovered by Tommy Motolla in 1997 and signing with Columbia Records, home to and starting point for international sensations such as Billy Joel, Wyclef Jean, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony. Kim quickly got her name out when her single, called "Letting Go", was featured on the Dawson’s Creek television show and multi-platinum soundtrack, the latter of which sold over 2 million copies. This led to performances on selected dates of the Lilith Fair Tour in 1998. Soon after was the single "Till I Cry You Out Of Me" featured on the Teaching Mrs. Tingle soundtrack – a 1998 movie starring teen sensation Katie Holmes.
The new millennium has not slowed her down. Kim released another single "Feelin’ Me" that reached number #4 on the Billboard Charts. From there she was featured in the April 2002 issue of Stuff magazine under the title "Queen of the Clubs." Soon after, Sozzi moved to Germany to work on conquering the music scene in Europe. In the year that she spent there, she recorded a song called "Show Me the Way" with tenor Jose Carreras, with whom she developed a business and personal relationship. Kim’s friendship with Jose remains in place today. Recording under the name Kim Styles in Germany, she then concluded her contractual obligations to her record label there by releasing the single "Every 1’s A Winner," accompanied by a sultry award nominated music video which was in rotation on MTV. Now that Kim has created her own niche in the music industry and has excelled through many different venues, it was time for her to return to the United States and perform for & co-manage Creations Music. While running the New York City office, she has secured corporate events with companies such as JP Morgan, Prudential, Microsoft, and Canon. Creations Music books talent nationally & internationally for events they are asked to plan & host. Creations Music has booked & preformed internationally, hosting weddings in venues raging from New York, Chicago, Vermont to Florida, Michigan, and Puerto Rico.
Kim has most recently recorded her latest single "How did you know" ( Nuetone Recordings ) which charted at #1 on KTU 103.5 and was in rotation on Z100 with the hit-making production team "Mynt" also known as Albert Castillo and Rich P.
Rick Anthony didn’t grow up as a music prodigy. He was brought up in the Bronx, NY, and picked up his first instrument – an accordion – and learned how to read music at the age of 14. "At the time, the accordion was like what the guitar is today," Rick says. But who would have known that this late bloomer would go on to have a brilliant career that not only would surpass all those dwindling child stars, but would have him performing alongside some of the greatest the music industry has ever known
Rick’s first big gig was singing with The Crystals from 1958-59. At the time, he worked together with Dion and The Belmonts. Rick opted to volunteer for service in the Armed Forces from 1960-63, but returned that much hungrier for a musical career.
In 1965 he and his new band Creations started playing regularly at the Copacabana in New York City. He lit up the lounge seven nights a week, meeting all the other Copa acts such as Sammy Davis Jr., Bobby Darrin, The Four Tops, Tom Jones, and more; even being presented with the opportunity to sing duets with some of them. In the late 60s, Creations left the Copacabana and became one of the first acts to ever be signed by the Norby Walters Agency.
In the 70s, Rick realized that he could take the irreplaceable experiences he learned from years in the business and apply it to redefine the "event entertainment business". Furthermore, he opted to break in new and hip acts as the musicians in Creations while running a tight ship and overseeing all aspects of his business. As the times and the musicians change around Creations Music, with the ever-growing demand for "what’s hot" in the fore of his mind, Rick Anthony keeps a rigorous schedule that is possible thanks to the strong work ethic he taught himself in the 70s.
After working through every era of great music in the 20th century, Rick is ready to astound America in the 21st century. Booking internationally for major corporate and private events alike, his years of experience and tenacity for giving 150 percent allows Creations Music to lead the pack. "We can handle any challenge that comes our way and we can cater to anybody," says Rick. His acts are wrought from raw musicians that share the dedication, loyalty, professionalism, and talent that Rick himself commands. He knows the importance of a good foundation, having been married for nearly 30 years to Kepi Sozzi and having spent the past five years assisting his daughter with her career and sampling the international scenes to, again, broaden his horizon.
